Tamrat Desta was an Ethiopian singer and songwriter who rose to fame after the release of his debut album Anleyaym, released on July 8, 2004.
Tamrat Desta was born in Tiqur Wuha near Shashamane, Ethiopia. He was the second of three children, all boys. After some years in Tiqur Wuha, his family moved to Shashemene and later went to Awassa, where Desta completed high school.
In 1998, Desta relocated to Dire Dawa, a town located 515 kilometres east of Addis Ababa, to live with his guardian and work at Cherqa Cherq Yekenet Buden. There, he received basic training in performing with a band and as a vocalist.
